Labor’s jobs promise looks likely to fail
Before the Victorian election in 2014, the Labor Party promised that if they were elected they would create 100,000 new full time jobs within two years.
However, the Labor government is now running well behind this target. In fact, only 5,000 new jobs have been created from the government’s “Back to Work” policy that subsidies employers to hire long term unemployed people.
To make it worse, the government is now claiming it didn’t make this promise at all. The Treasurer now says it was a just a “target”, not a promise.
If a government’s can’t keep a promise, it should at least be honest enough to admit it, instead of pretending it never made the promise in the first place.
