10 more years of CityLink tolls, but still no East West Link

The Andrews government has today announced it will proceed with plans to slug CityLink motorists at least 10 more years of tolls to help pay for its $5.5 billion “Western Distributor” between the Westgate Freeway and Footscray Road.

At the same time, the government is refusing to accept $500 million from the Commonwealth government towards the expansion of the Monash Freeway.

In other words, CityLink motorists from the east, south-east and north of Melbourne will be slugged for tolls to pay for a road they will seldom use and will get little benefit from.

Yet motorists across Melbourne will remain stuck in traffic because Daniel Andrews has paid $1.1 billion to NOT build East-West Link and doesn’t want to accept $500 million from the Commonwealth.

It’s hard to believe that a government can treat motorists and taxpayers with such contempt.
