Victoria’s major events experts dumped
There was worrying news last week that Victoria is in danger of losing out on future major sporting and cultural events coming to Victoria.
Attracting major events such the Formula One Grand Prix, the Commonwealth Games, sporting championships and comedy, fashion and food festivals have been a key part of bringing visitors to Victoria, and making Victoria a popular and interesting place to live.
However, the government has recently shut down the Victorian Major Events Company, the experts who have been successful for more than twenty years in getting major events for Victoria. Instead, the government has given that job to a new tourism body called Visit Victoria.
Negotiating to bring large major events to Victoria requires specialist negotiating and business skills, and those skills have now been lost, putting future major events at risk.
